Iran int’l doc fest rolls out 2 nomination strands

“Cinema Verite” Iran International Documentary Film Festival in Tehran has revealed nominations for two categories of the event.

According to a Friday media release published on the festival website, the jury for "Cinema Verite" announced the nominated titles for two strands of national competition as well as Martyr Avini Award.

A total of 74 docs were reviewed in the national competition section with ‘Finding Farideh’ by Kourosh Atai and Azadeh Mousavi as well as ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ by Reza Farahmand standing atop nomination list with 7 noms.

The jurors also nominated titles such as ‘Lady Quds of Iran’ by Mostafa Razzaq Karimi and ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ for Martyr Avini Award in Best Feature-Length Documentary section.

Meisam Sabouhi’s ‘Aleppo’s Tresses’ is among the nominated films for the Short Documentary section of the award.  

Organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the 11th Cinema Verite is underway from Sunday through December 17 in Tehran.

The DEFC is the largest center for production, distribution and promotion of documentary, animated and experimental pictures in the Middle East.

The Cinema Verite aims, among others, to promote creative documentary and reinforce the link between documentary cinema and social facts and events.
